What is Eyelid Surgery?
Eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty is the surgical removal or reshaping of sagging skin and fatty tissues around the eyes. Signs of aging are usually first noticed around the eyes. Due to the effects of gravity, genetic and environmental factors and aging, sagging of the upper eyelid skin and bags under the eyes occur. This procedure is generally performed to eliminate aesthetic or visual disturbances and to obtain a young and dynamic appearance around the eyes. However, in some cases, it can be performed for medical purposes to open the field of vision.
What are the symptoms of eyelid aging?
Sagging in which the natural structure of the lid is disrupted
Bags and color change under the eyes
Drooping upper eyelid
Crow's feet lines around the eyes
A tired facial expression
How is eyelid aesthetics (blepharoplasty) performed?
After the patient is evaluated before eyelid aesthetics, pre-operative drawings and measurements are made on the natural curved lines of the eye for upper lid blepharoplasty. Lower lid aesthetics can be performed from the lower lid lash line or the inner part of the eyelid using a method called transconjunctival.
Lower and upper eyelid aesthetics can be performed at the same time. When necessary, adding brow lift surgery to these procedures provides better results.
Care and Recovery After Eyelid Surgery
During the care and recovery process after eyelid surgery, it is recommended to apply cold compresses regularly to reduce swelling and bruising of the eyes in the post-operative period. It is important to use the medications recommended by your doctor regularly and reduce the risk of infection by using recommended eye drops. Additionally, avoiding eye rubbing, eye rubbing, and overly strenuous activities, ensuring that the head is elevated when lying down, and dressing as recommended may also aid in the healing process. It is important to attend regular check-up appointments and strictly follow your doctor's instructions. The recovery process may vary depending on individual differences, but normal activities can usually be resumed within 1 to 2 weeks.
What should be taken into consideration during eyelid aesthetic surgery?
Sun exposure should be avoided in the postoperative period and the use of sunglasses is recommended when going out.
After the surgery, the eyes do not need to be closed and patients can continue their daily activities.
The stitches on the eyelid are removed in 7-8 days. Due to the thin skin of the eyelid, swelling and bruises may occur. These swelling and bruises will disappear completely in an average of 7-14 days. The scars on the lid fade within 3-6 months and become almost invisible.
